Homeopathy Remedies to Remove Dark Circles Underneath Eyes.

Dark circles under the eyes can make a person look tired, even disreputable. Rather than being a testament to hard partying, dark circles are sometimes due to circumstances beyond your control. Cosmetics, prescription creams, laser therapy, and chemical peels can all help disguise, reduce or eliminate dark circles, but if you're interested in a holistic, alternative approach, you might want to consider homeopathic remedies.

Causes

  • This is one problem you really can blame on mom or dad; the tendency to have dark circles under the eyes involves the relative transparency of the skin, and can run in families. Allergies also play a role--food allergies can cause darkening under the eyes, and the itchiness of hay fever and scratching can contribute to circles too. Some drugs, such as vasodilator medications, can affect under-eye appearance by increasing blood flow, as can nasal infections, which darken and dilate the veins that run from eyes to nose. Improper diet, sun exposure, pregnancy, menstruation, and aging also affect under-eye appearance. Finally, fatigue and lack of sleep can accentuate dark circles, especially if you are already prone to them.

Homeopathic Theory

  • Homeopathy is based on the theory of "like cures like." To cure an ailment, a homeopathic practitioner will prescribe miniscule amounts of a substance that, in larger doses, would cause the same symptoms in a healthy person. Another axiom of homeopathic medicine is the "Law of Infinitesimals," which states that the smaller the amount, the more powerful the effects. The ingredients used in homeopathic remedies are successively diluted many times in water or alcohol until only a tiny amount of the original substance remains.

Homeopathic Remedies

  • To reduce dark circles under the eyes, your homeopath might prescribe cinchona officinalis, made from quinine bark. Originally used for malaria, cinchona is a mainstay of homeopathic treatments for eye ailments. He may also prescribe a dilution of cyclamen root, for its purifying effect, as well as spongia, made from sea sponge, also used for its cleansing and purifying qualities. He might also recommend sepia, made from cuttlefish ink and commonly used homeopathically for skin discoloration, as well as chinin sulphuricum, also known as sulphite of quinine, normally used for eye infections and neuralgia around the eye. Other remedies he might recommend are vanilla aromatica--which has stimulant properties--and thuja, or white cedar, for its antiseptic, system-cleansing and diuretic qualities.
